Giving Notice & Moving Out
What should I do if I wish to end my tenancy?
If you wish to end your tenancy you must tells us in writing at least ONE CALENDAR MONTH before you leave your home. The notice period must end on a Sunday and all keys to the property returned to our offices by 12 noon the next day.
If keys are not returned by 12 noon on the Monday following the end of your tenancy, you will be charged for the next week’s rent.
Granta offers an incentive scheme to tenants who return their gas and electric prepayment cards, smart cards or quantum keys when leaving a property. Simply return your key or cards with the property keys by 12 noon on the Monday following the end of your tenancy to receive a £10 Bonus Bond Voucher which can be redeemed at a variety of High Street stores, including Boots, WH Smith, and HMV.
Please follow the link below for a printable version of our Notice to Quit form, which you can complete and post to us at 1 Horizon Park, Barton Road, Comberton, Cambridge, CB23 7AF.
What happens during the notice period?
We will visit you at home to discuss what you need to do before you leave, but in summary you must:
• Leave the property clean and tidy and in reasonable decorative order
• Repair any damage you have caused (such as holes in doors)
• Remove carpets (unless these are in very good condition and this has previously been agreed by your Neighbourhood Officer)
• Remove all rubbish and belongings
• Leave your garden in a tidy condition, clear from any rubbish or furniture
• Clear attics and sheds
If you have not done all of the above we will charge you for the full cost of this work, plus a 15% administration fee to cover the cost of organising this.
In the meantime we will be finding a new tenant to move into your home and, with your agreement, may allow them to view the property.
Letting people know you have moved
It is your responsibility to let suppliers for gas, electric, phone and water know that you have moved. You should make arrangements to have your gas and electricity meters read and the telephone disconnected (where applicable). It is also important to notify the Council Tax Office and the Housing Benefits Department (if you have been claiming this).
You will also be asked to give us your forwarding address in case we need to contact you once you have moved on.
