Applying for Housing

Accommodation

Granta Housing Society does not hold a waiting list for accommodation. You should first apply to your Local Council where you will be placed on their waiting list and they in turn will nominate you to us. You should state that you will consider other Housing Associations. We will ask nominating authorities to provide a suitable nominee; simultaneously the applicant will be required to complete and return an application form to us. This will be checked by staff to ensure that it has been properly completed and the applicant meets Granta's eligibility criteria. All nominees will receive a home visit and an interview prior to an offer of accommodation being made and a Housing Officer will contact you to arrange a convenient date and time for this visit. Once a nominee has been accepted or rejected for an offer of accommodation, the Housing Officer will advise the nominating authority.

Consideration of Your Application

The following factors will be taken into account:-

a) The extent of your housing need with regard to the condition and size of your present accommodation and the type of tenancy you have.

b) Social and medical factors (evidence in the form of letters from your doctor, social worker etc….. are needed before you will be awarded social and medical needs points).

c) Reason for wanting to move to the area required such as current or previous residence, employment or the need to be near close relatives.

d) Whether you have other solutions available to you e.g. a right to Local Authority housing or the financial ability to buy or rent adequate private accommodation.
