Casual Workers (Bank Scheme)
What is the "Bank Scheme"?
A flexible scheme for providing short term cover during staff absences in the Society's residential and nursing care homes. You choose the locations you would like to work at and decide whether to accept each shift at the time it is offered. Induction and training provided.
What would my role be?
Bank Care Worker
Providing a range of support which varies between projects and individual residents and may include assisting residents with personal care, daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and assisting and enabling the residents to take part in a range of activities, interests and hobbies.
Bank Nurse
Providing a quality, cost effective care service to residents in accordance with Granta's policies and procedures. This involves care duties (including personal care) and may involve working unsupervised and being responsible for a project for specific shifts of duties.
Bank General worker role:
If you prefer a non-care role, choose from the following as appropriate:
- Domestic - To maintain a standard of cleanliness in residential care homes which conforms to the Society's and statutory guidelines.
- Catering Assistant - To assist in providing quality, nutritionally balanced cost effective dietary services in the project.
- Cook - To provide quality, nutritionally balanced, cost effective dietary services in the project.
- Laundry worker - To maintain a standard of freshly laundered linen in the project.
How does the Bank scheme work?
Bank members are contacted directly by Project staff, usually by telephone to your home, as and when cover is required.
Please note: There is no guarantee that Granta will provide you with any offer of a shift. You are under no obligation to accept any offer of a shift
What training will I receive?
You will receive induction training from each project (as appropriate) before being allowed to work unsupervised for a shift. In addition you will receive training in the following areas
- Food Hygiene
- First Aid
- Moving and Handling
- Introduction to the relevant field(s) (e.g. Mental Health)

How do I join the Bank Scheme?
Applications should be made in writing on the appropriate form available from the HR & Training Department.
Applications will be subject to a selection process including pre-employment checks.
Please note that for all successful candidates it is a requirement that a CRB check is undertaken by the Society. In addition, the Society is required (under the Care Standards Act 2000) to have staff working in a 'registered' scheme checked to see if they are included on the POVA list (Protection of Vulnerable Adults).
